The talk button: Hold, Tap and Open mic

Three ways to talk: hold the button, tap on and off, or let open mic listen for your voice.

What it is

The big talk button sends your voice to everyone in the room. It works three ways: Hold (press and hold while you talk), Tap (tap once to start and again to stop, sometimes called latch) and Open mic (hands-free: KeyUp sends only when it hears your voice).

When to use it

Use Hold for quick messages. Use Tap for longer talks, so you don’t have to keep pressing. Use Open mic when your hands are busy.

How to do it

  1. On the Talk tab, tap a room to open it. You can also talk straight from the card at the top of the Talk tab.

  2. Above the button, pick Hold, Tap or Open mic. You only see the ways your room allows.

    Choose how you want to talk.

  3. Hold: press and hold the button, talk, then let go. While you talk the button turns red and says On air with a timer.

  4. Tap: tap once to start and tap again to stop.

  5. Open mic: tap to turn your mic on. KeyUp only sends when it hears your voice, and ignores most noise. Tap again to stop.

  6. If someone else is talking, you’ll see their name and is talking. Wait for them to finish, then it’s your turn.
